Joe Willie Hunt

Joe Willie Hunt was born in Farmerville, LA on Monday, June 12, 1950, to Ophra Mae Gardner Hunt and Joe Nathan Hunt Jr. Joe Willie departed this life on Monday, December 26, 2024. Joe Willie grew up in Farmerville, LA where he was a very serious child and very protective of his family, especially his younger sisters Gloria and Beryl. Joe Willie attended Eastside High School, and after high school the family moved to Los Angeles, CA. There he attended Los Angeles Trade Tech, once he finished school, he left California and relocated to Houma, LA with his sister Bettye, where he later met and married Cynthia Maria Jones. To this union two children were born, Christopher and Nadia.

Joe Willie took care of his grandmother Addie Gardner until her death in 1969. With that continued serious and protective spirit, Joe Willie was an instrumental presence in the upbringing and raising of his children. He loved and cherished his children and especially enjoyed time spent with his grandson Jaycon. Joe Willie‘s heart was full of love and compassion . He always lived his life thinking of others before himself.

Joe Willie leaves to cherish his memories, his ex-wife Cynthia J. Hunt. His five children Christopher M. Hunt (Donya), Nadia Hunt Matthews (Lewis), Courtney M. Young, Corey Young (Nikkei), and Areka J. Hunt. His sisters Alice Wenger, Bettye McGhee (Robert), Lizette Martin, Gloria Juanita Ramirez and Beryl Lavern Terrell (Gregory) and his brother Breard Mason. His Sisters-in-law Brenda Belcher and Marva Keller, Brothers-in-law Frank Jones Jr., Bruce Jones Sr. (Margaret), Carl Jones (Beverly) and Gabriel Jones (TroyLynn). Joe Willie leaves 16 Grandchildren, 11 Great-Grandchildren, 4 Godchildren, many nieces, nephews and close family friend Lloyd Johnson.

Joe Willie was proceeded in death by his parents Ophra Mae Gardner Hunt and Joe Nathan Hunt Jr., his grandmother Addie Gardner, his sisters Martha Washington and Barbara Page, his brother Fredrick Hunt, his mother-in-law Pearl Taylor Jones, father-in-law Frank Jones Sr. and his long time companion Geraldine Scott.
