

Johnny Johnson, a devoted husband, father, and pillar of his community, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2025, at the age of 79. Born in Houma, Louisiana, to Jesse and Jeanetta Johnson, Johnny dedicated his life to faith, family, and service. A man of deep conviction, he served as an ordained pastor and was a cherished member of Moses Baptist Church, where his life was guided by Proverbs 3:6: “In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
Johnny’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to become a trailblazer, founding Joni's Mini Mart & Washateria in Thibodaux, the first Black-owned convenience store in the area. He and his wife Selena managed the business for over three decades, creating a legacy of hard work, and generosity. A mentor to many, Johnny was affectionately known as “Mr. Johnny,” admired for his wisdom, kindness, and dedication to uplifting those around him.
Visitation will be Friday, January 24, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Moses Baptist Church 1032 Canal Blvd Thibodaux, LA 70301 Funeral service will be 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at Moses Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Moses Cemetery on Ledet Street Thibodaux, LA.
Johnny is survived by his wife, Selena; his children Christine, Lisa, Dedra, LaRhonda, Joni, and Shanna (Chris); siblings Ida, Alice, Lynwood, Troy (Velvet), Ethel, Ethel Lee (Andrew), and Warren (Faye); and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Though his presence will be deeply missed, Johnny’s legacy of love, faith, and service will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know him.
