In the quietness of early morning, on February 16th, Matthew took wings and soared to heavenly heights. Matthew was born on April 6, 1965 to the union of Matthew and Hazel Williams Robertson. He was the youngest and only boy of four children.
Matthew was baptized in April of 1975 by Reverend Hugh Traylor at New Morning Star Baptist Church. He graduated from Assumption High in May of 1983. Matthew was an amazing track star until a traumatic knee injury ended his dreams of becoming a member of the Florida State University’s track and field team. Matthew then started his college career at Xavier University, New Orleans, LA but completed his studies and graduated from Nicholls State University, Thibodaux, LA in 1988.
Following his sisters, Matthew enlisted into the United States Air Force in 1990. Matthew’s love of building model cars propelled him into training as an Aeronautics Engineering Specialist. After Matthew’s enlistment was completed, he was recruited by Lockheed Martin Manned Space Center of New Orleans, LA and worked there for 12 years. Prior to his promotion and transfer to Lockheed Martin Aeronautics of Fort Worth, Texas, Matthew and JuBeth were married. There they shared a loving marriage and home for 18 years until Matthew’s untimely death.
It was endearing to hear from Matthew’s supervisors and co-workers. We learned that he was a tremendous asset to the company throughout his 18 years of employment. We were also told of the “sons” he raised on the job. We take solace in those kind and uplifting words, but still mourn the loss of our “baby brother.”
Matthew leaves to cherish his memories: wife, JuBeth Robertson; step-son, James
D. Gudes; fur baby, Bentley Paul Robertson; sisters, Janice Mitchell, Lesia Robertson and Cora Oliver (Raymond); Aunt and Godmother, Gracie W. Brown; niece and Nephews, Justin Paul Robertson, Janae’ Nicole Mitchell, Jansen Paul Mitchell, Joshua Paul Oliver and Ramon Micheal Oliver; great nephews, Ryan Michael OliverKyle Triggs, Kobi Johnson, A’mir Ellis, Joah Matthew Oliver and Jaxon Paul Oliver.
Matthew was preceded in death by his parents, Matthew and Hazel Williams Robertson; maternal grandparents, Oliver and Alberda Williams; paternal grandparents, Frank Robertson and Cora Jones; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
