2/21/1956 - 3/13/2024
Angelina was born in Houston, Texas on February 21, 1956 to Sostenes and Juliana Rodriguez. She was one of six sisters and eight brothers. She went to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning, March 13, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. She passed peacefully at her home.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Maria Theresa Basquez and Armandina Acosta; her brothers, Sostenes Jr., Robert, Roger, Manuel Salvador Sr., Steven, and Paul Rodriguez. She is survived by her brothers, Thomas and David (Linda) Rodriguez; her sisters, Rachel (Rafael Sr.) Tirado, Rebecca Trujillo, and Sarah (Robert) Segelke.
She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her, as she made such a lasting impression on all of us.
Angelina was an exemplary student in school, and teachers would write letters to her mom about how outstanding she was. She was a Catamount cheerleader at Marshall Junior High. She attended Jefferson Davis High School (Northside), where she became the first member of her family to graduate high school; and later earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biblical Studies, a true accomplishment.
A woman of strong faith, Nina was a longtime member of El Mesias Methodist Church, and spent many years teaching Sunday school and singing in the choir.
Always a hard worker, Angelina worked many jobs in her lifetime. She babysat her siblings’ children, and held Administrative positions with Lomas and Nettleton, Houston Methodist Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital (Candy Striper), the Houston Police Dept., and the City of Houston. She last worked as a greeter and cashier at Wal-Mart, where she continually received Employee of the Month.
Married only briefly, she had no children, but always treated her nieces and nephews as if they were her own. She had an especially close bond with Monica, her youngest brother’s daughter.
Angelina stayed in Northside all her life, and was a true Houston Astros fan (something shared between her siblings), never wanting to be interrupted while watching a game. Her favorite players were Lance Berkman and Alex Bregman. She loved family gatherings, playing Limon League, eating BBQ, and singing In-Concerts with her family. She taught herself how to play the piano and read sheet music. She loved watching scary movies. She was an avid runner and walker at Memorial Park for many years. She also traveled to her dream destination, the state of Colorado, where she got to experience real snow. She spent many happy days at the beach in Galveston, Texas.
Nina had a special way about her, and made an everlasting impression on everyone she met. She valued her family above all else, and spent quality time with those she loved. She lived life to the fullest, even at the end. She will never be forgotten.
May she rest in peace with our Lord, just as she planned.
