

On Sunday, June 7, 2020, beloved father, husband, and friend, Angelito “Angel” Demerin, was called to the Lord at age 79. Angel was born on March 23, 1941 in Culasi, Antique, Philippines to Leopoldo P. Demerin and Maria Malacad. While in school, he was the recipient of a band scholarship and attended The University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos where he earned a degree in Bachelor of Science in Accounting. After college, he found a job at Sycip Gorres Velayo and Company (SGV) accounting firm as an accountant and later transferred to Central Azucarera de la Carlota where he met his beautiful wife, Amparo “Ampy” D. Mental, who was a teacher at the school.
After marrying, he decided he wanted to provide a better life for his family and immigrated to the United States in 1975. He moved his family to Chicago, Illinois, and a few years later, moved to Houston, Texas in 1980, where they raised their four children, Engeline, Claudine, Ted, and Jill. He continued his career in accounting with The Boy Scouts of America, and shortly after, began working at Children’s Protective Services (CPS). He retired from CPS in 2013 after working there for 30 Years.
Angel loved to run, fish, listen to classical music, and play the trumpet. In fact, he was the first trumpet player in his family and played in a band while in the Philippines. Additionally, Angel was an active member of the Filipino community and was elected as one of the board of directors of the West Visayan Circle of Houston. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and adored his wife. He was especially proud to tell everyone that he was a grandfather “Lolo” of two sets of twins! Angel loved food and found pleasure in cooking a variety of dishes for family and friends.
Angel was preceded in death by his parents, Leopoldo and Maria Demerin and brother, Pedro Demerin; He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Amparo Demerin; daughters, Engeline Gail Trevino, Claudine Samoro, and Jill Anne Demerin; son, Ted Angel Demerin; sons-in-law, who were like sons to him, Matthew Raphael Trevino and Joel Cornelio Samoro; Ten grandchildren, whom he loved dearly, Ava Gail Trevino, Mason Claude Mercier, Megan Elizabeth Trevino, Zayne Claude Mercier, Jonni Farrah Mercier, Korben David Trevino, Leopold Angel Trevino, Drake Martin Samoro, Griffin Luis Samoro, and Lundi Carter Mercier; brothers, Orlando Demerin and Leopoldo Demerin, Jr.; sisters, Victoria Morandarte, Nelia Ma, and Edna Saldavia.
Visitation and Rosary with reception will be at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77077 on Thursday, June 11, 2020 (Visitation/Reception 6:00-8:00pm, Rosary 6:30-7:00pm). Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home on Friday, June 12, 2020 at 10:30am followed by a Christian Burial at 12:00pm.
