Tony Bruno was born in Port Arthur, TX June 28,1926 to Joseph and Mamie Bruno. He was the middle of 5 children (Rose Carter, Roy Bruno, Sam Bruno and PJ Bruno) all of whom preceded him in death and is survived by sisters-in-law Joan Bruno and Patricia Bruno and numerous nieces and nephews.
In 2002 Tony married the love of his life, Hallie Derr, who preceded him in death, and he is survived by her daughter and sons.
Tony graduated from Thomas Jefferson High school, Port Arthur TX in 1944 and was a veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict, serving his country in the US Navy.
He went on to earn a degree in Economics and Management from the University of Houston and was the ultimate Cougar fan holding season football tickets for the first football season and every season thereafter except when deployed for the Korean Conflict.
Tony had a long career with National Marine services, retiring in 1985 as a Vice President. After retirement Tony volunteered for the University of Houston Athletics Program for 33 years.
Tony had a passion for life, family, friends and his little dog Tweety and enjoyed staying fit, working out and attending University of Houston football and basketball games. When asked “How are you doing?” he would always reply, “Better than I deserve.”
The family would like to express appreciation to the caregivers for the excellent care they gave Tony during the final stages of his life.
Services are January 9, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Michael the Archangel Catholic Church,1801 Sage Road, Houston, TX 77056. Internment follows at Memorial Oaks 13001 Katy Freeway.
