On Tuesday, December 25, 2018, Anthony Joseph Mandola, husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, friend, passed away at the age of 77. Tony was born on January 14, 1941, to Mercurio (Michael) Mandala’ (Mandola) and Rose Caporina.
He received his bachelor’s, master’s, and juris doctorate degrees from the University of Houston and was licensed by the Texas State Bar in 1968. He worked in the lease department for Exxon Mobil for 20-plus years.
On March 25, 1977, he married Genevieve Andrews Kinsella, and they raised one son, Michael, and two daughters, Rosalyn and Anne. He loved cooking, especially Italian family recipes; playing poker; competing lovingly with his wife and children at “Jeopardy,” chess, scrabble, and countless board and card games; and his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved brother Frank.
Tony is survived by his wife Gen and their three children: Michael Mandola and wife Amanda; Rosalyn Mandola and partner Ricardo Bueno; and Anne Jones and husband Kyle. He was affectionately known as “Pawpaw” by his grandchildren that survive him: Ethan, Gracie, and Isaac Mandola; and Josephine and Genevieve Jones. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Janey Gallagher and husband Jeff, Jartha Kinsella, and Lena Mandola, as well as dozens of nieces, nephews, cousins, and their descendants, for whom he had nothing but love.
Visitation will be Tuesday, January 1, 2019 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm with the rosary being recited in The Hunters Creek Chapel at Earthman Funeral Directors, 8303 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77024. Requiem Mass will be on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at 9:00 am at The Cathedral of Our Lady of Walsingham, 7809 Shadyvilla Lane, Houston, Texas 77055 with the graveside to follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery. The family would like to invite friends to a reception at 12:00 pm in the St. Jude Hall at The Cathedral of Our Lady of Walsingham.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the dedicated, tireless, and God-sent nurses of MD Anderson.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
