Tony honorably served his country as a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps from June 1977 to June 1981. During his time in service, he earned several distinguished awards, including the Rifle Sharpshooter Badge, Meritorious Mast, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, and Good Conduct Medal. His dedication and commitment to his country were reflected in his service and discipline.
After leaving the Marine Corps, Tony pursued various careers, but he found his true passion in working with horses. A true Texas cowboy at heart, Tony spent many years working on ranches and immersed himself in the life of a cowboy. After several years of ranch work, he retired and discovered a love for cycling, becoming an avid bike rider in his later years. Tony was also a diehard fan of Alabama Football, proudly supporting his team through thick and thin.
Tony was known for his warm, welcoming spirit. He had a gift for making friends wherever he went, and he never knew a stranger. His generosity was evident through the many ways he served others, from helping his neighbors to frequently cooking for them. His core values, deep love for his country, and strong family ties were a testament to the kind of man he was—loyal, selfless, and kind.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Basilio and Carmen Aguirre; his sister, Maria Aguirre Ontiveros; and his brother, Basilio Aguirre Jr.
He is survived by his loving siblings, Minerva Lopez, Jose Aguirre (Delia Aguirre; sister-in-law); Gilbert Aguirre, Lolly Avant, Virginia Perkins (Tony Perkins; brother-in-law), and Johnny Aguirre; Jesus Ontiveros, brother-in-law, Yanira De Paz Aguirre, sister-in-law, along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
A memorial service to honor Tony’s life and legacy will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at the American Heritage Funeral Home beginning at 10am. The family invites friends and loved ones to join in celebrating the life of a man who touched the hearts of many.
