Early Years
Arneice Patterson was a small-town girl with a big personality! Born and raised in Bienville, Louisiana, to the late Horace and Lorean Patterson, she was the second-born of nine children and the first daughter in the family. From early on, Arneice was very independent, headstrong, sassy, but caring in her own way. She lived her life carefree and always seemed to be on the go.
Young and Ambitious
Arneice found joy in many things—playing cards, eating sweets, and listening to Joe Simon, with The Choking Kind being her absolute favorite song. But above all else, she loved getting money. She once proudly declared that her earliest ambition was to become a “Big Shot!”
A graduate of Shady Grove High School, she carried her determined spirit into her working years. She started doing domestic work in Louisiana before moving to Texas, where she worked in food preparation for a sandwich delivery company in Galveston. Later, in Houston, she took on a role assisting at the Green Oaks Barbecue, where she became a familiar and well-loved presence.
On Her Christian Journey
From an early age, she accepted Christ and attended Mt. Zillah Baptist Church with her family, where the late Rev. J.D. Jackson was Pastor. There she was baptized in her faith at the age of 12. As an adult, she became a member of Mt. Corinth Missionary Baptist Church in the Historic Fifth Ward, where she was under the leadership of the late Dr. A. Louis Patterson, Jr.
Family Life
At the age of 28, she became a mother, welcoming her first daughter Sandra and four years later, her youngest, Aretha. She loved being a grandmother and took great pride in her grandchildren, Denesha, Cymone, Desmond, and Dillon. In recent years, she was blessed with a great-granddaughter, Mackinley, who brought an extra sparkle to her life.
