

Avis Marie Garrett passed away on January 27, 2012. Marie, youngest of five children, was born in Wink, Texas on September 3, 1930 to parents, Homer Fewell and Ora Lillian Butler. She is survived by her husband of 63, years, Charles Lindy Garrett; Daughter, Linda Kay Garrett and partner Donna Muery of Canyon Lake, Texas; son, Charles Lindy Garrett, Jr.; daughter, Marsha Ann deArmas; granddaughter, Lindsey Marie deArmas, all of Houston; also two precious great-granddaughters, Tyler Marie and Ryleigh Ann Moquin of Clinton, Tennessee; nieces, Bettty Woolacott and Ann Sapp, of Houston.
Marie’s family moved to Dallas, Texas while she was very young and later to Orange, Texas as a teenager. She graduated from Orange High School and met Lindy when he returned home to Orange after serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. They were married July 24, 1948 and moved to Houston for Lindy to finish college while she worked to help support him and their children.
Marie was a long time member of St. Stephen’s United Methodist Church and was active all her life with her children in Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Methodist Youth Fellowship and a Girls Softball coach for many years at Oaks Dads Club. She enjoyed playing bridge and traveling with Lindy and their friends.
The family wishes to give special thanks to, Legend Oaks Rehabilitation Center; American Hospice; Cancer Dialogue Support Group at Memorial Hermann N.W.; and Homebound Visitors at St. Stephen’s Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas, 281-497-2210, on Tuesday, January 31, 2012, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on January 31st at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home Chapel, interment will follow at Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
