The Father looked down and decided to bless Ludolph and Savannah Misher with another child. They already had a large and loving family consisting of Rosie Mae Misher, Ludolph Misher, Jr., Ludell Robinson, and Fred Douglas Misher. On April 1, 1939, child number five was born, named Barbara Jo Misher, and later the baby girl, Mary Misher, was born.
Barbara Jo attended Gregory Elementary School and, just like Jesus, she increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and with people (Luke 2:52). She was reared in a Christian family and joined Nazarene Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. T. E. Marshall, who baptized her at the age of 12. She remained a member under the leadership of the late Rev. Therie Washington. Luke 2:23 reads, “As it is written in the Law of the Lord, ‘Every male who first opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord.” Barbara Jo was blessed with her first-born son and named him Larry Darnell Misher. Although she was a new mother, Barbara Jo knew she was saved to serve. She became a faithful secretary to the Vacation Bible School at her church. This was only the beginning of her service to the Lord. He was preparing her for greater service to Him and His people.
In 1958, God gave her two great blessings to celebrate. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and married the love of her life, Dr. Lee Edward Bennett, in June 1958. Psalm 127:3 reads, “Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from Him.” God gifted Rev. and Sis. Bennett with Esther Louise Bennett-Jefferson, Arbordene Marie Bennett Tisdell, David Lee Bennett, Troy Eugene Bennett, and Bridgett Latrice Leonard. While they were rearing their children in the fear and admonition of the Lord, Barbara Jo was elected President of the Jesse H. Jones High School Golden Voices Parent Booster Club, where she served from 1978-1982, making an impact for Christ on innumerable young men and women.
Again, being a mother did not stop her service to her Lord and Savior. Because of her loving heart, God honored her to be the First Lady at New South Main Missionary Baptist Church, Fellowship Baptist Church, Agape Love Church, and The Master’s Touch Ministries, where she served faithfully next to her husband.
God was not finished blessing this couple with children. Proverbs 17:6 states, “Children’s children are a crown to the aged…” They were blessed with five grandchildren: Lyrecha Polk, Jeremy Charles-Bennett, Jonathan Tisdell, Brodrick Rodgers, and Ashton Leonard. Yet again, another generation emerged: great-grandchildren, Alannah Tisdell, Logan Charles-Bennett, Xavier Charles-Bennett, Latricia Green, Marcus Green Jr., Nolan Green, and Ashlyn Leonard; and great-great-grandchildren, Journee Polk and Jordan Polk.
In 2011, she and her husband became members of St. Agnes March of Faith Ministries, under the leadership of Apostle Gene A. Moore, Sr., where they both remained until their heavenly departure. Dr. Lee Edward Bennett and Barbara Jo celebrated 55 years of marital bliss until the Lord called him home.
