

Barbara Joan Heidecker, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2025, at the age of 82, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born on April 6, 1943, in Emmetsburg, Iowa, Barbara led a life filled with love, and unwavering faith. Barbara was a cherished daughter of William and Greta (Bradley) McConnell. She grew up in a farming household that instilled in her the values of dedication to family and hard work. She graduated from Graettinger High School in 1961. Following high school, she went on to become a nursing assistant and a dental hygienist, and balanced several jobs while putting Alan through graduate school. On April 25, 1964, Barbara married the love of her life, Alan Heidecker. Their marriage was a beautiful partnership that lasted for 61 years until Alan's passing, just two weeks prior. In the early 90s, Barbara transitioned to a new career as a hearing aid specialist, eventually purchasing Wells Hearing Aid. This business became a vital part of her life until she moved to Texas in 2002. Upon relocating, she continued her career as a hearing aid specialist at Costco, where she worked until her retirement in 2019. Barbara took pride in serving her community and helping others improve their quality of life through better hearing. A proud charter member of the New Hope Evangelical Free Church in Orange City, Iowa, Barbara’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. Her church community provided her with immense support and friendship, which she cherished deeply. Barbara's interests included scrapbooking, reading, writing, and bird watching.
Barb is survived be her children, and grandchildren. Daron Heidecker, and his daughters Sarah Heidecker, Chloe Heidecker, and Chloe's fiance, Coleman Davis. Chad Heidecker, along with his wife Angela, and their children, Caleb (Kory) Heidecker, Zachary Heidecker, and Nathaniel Heidecker.
Barbara is preceded in death by her husband Alan, her parents William and Greta McConnell, her sister and brother-in-law Byron and Jane James, her brother-in-law Jack Strodtman. Barbara Joan Heidecker will be remembered as a woman of strength, compassion, and love. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
A visitation will be held on August 11, 2025, from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at the American Heritage Funeral Home, located at 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038.
The funeral service will follow on the same day, August 11, 2025, from 10:00 am to 10:45 am, at the same location.
A committal service will take place on August 11, 2025, from 11:15 am to 11:45 am at the Houston National Cemetery, located at 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77038.
