Barbara Jean LaGrasta, 81, passed from this life on August 28, 2014. She was born on April 22, 1933 in Bolivar, Missouri. Barbara was the fifth of seven children born to Willard and Phyllis Miller. Her youth was spent on the family farm in Missouri before she left home at the age of 18 to live with her sister in San Diego. While in San Diego, she met Dan, her husband of 57 years while he was serving in the US Navy.
Most of her years married to Dan were that of a passionate football coach’s wife, rooting Dan’s teams to victory in Breckenridge, Texas, San Angelo, Texas and at Texas A&M University. The demands of a coach’s wife were not enough for her though, as she pursued a career as a high-school teacher and later as a field consultant for Mcdonald’s Restaurants. After Dan retired from coaching, Barbara and Dan became Mcdonald’s Restaurant franchise owners in Houston. That’s when it was Barbara’s turn to do the coaching and Dan’s turn to do the cheering. They made a great team!
Of all her achievements in this life, she was the most proud of her grandson’s. She was best known to her friends for her beautiful flower arrangements, wreath’s, holiday decorations and overall decorating skills.
She is survived by her sister, Dottie, brother Jimmy, Sister-in-law, Mary, Sons, Fred and Steve, Daughters-in-law, Marne and Karen, Grandson’s, Nick, Michael, James and Mitch and many nieces, nephews and cousins in Texas, Missouri, Pennsylvania and California.
A memorial service celebrating Barbara’s life will be held at Fulshear United Methodist Church in Fulshear, Texas on Saturday, the 6th of September at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to either the Fulshear United Methodist Church (P.O. Box 100, Fulshear, Texas 77441) or the Texas A&M 12th Man Foundation (P.O.Box 2800, College Station, Texas 77841.)
