Barbara Ledford Smith, age 81, surrounded by her daughters in her home, lost her battle with cancer on the 3rd of September 2012. Born in Conway, Arkansas on the 16th of April 1931, she married Charles G. Smith, Jr. and enjoyed 51 years of companionship until his lost battle with cancer in 2000. Barbara will be missed by children, Julia Janz and husband Ray of Missouri City; Janet DeMerchant of Pearland; and Marilyn Mokracek of Richmond, who provided loving care since 2000; and by the grandchildren and great-grandchildren she adored, Charles, Alice, Bailey, Riley and Everett Janz of Pittsburgh, PA; Robert, Shannon and Ryan Janz of Greenville, SC, and Stephanie Janz of Houston.
A funeral service is to be conducted at three o’clock in the afternoon on Thursday, the 6th of September, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
At a later date, the family is to gather for a private interment at Houston National Cemetery.
