

Barbara was born on the 16th of December 1929, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to John Herbert Bailey Sr. and Lilly Roberta (Stafford) Bailey Roberts. She attended Baton Rouge High School and Louisiana State University where she studied the art of homemaking and was a member of Phi Mu Sorority.
While in college, Barbara met George Randall Thompson Sr. , the love of her life, on a blind date. They married and were just months short of celebrating 73 years wonderful years of marriage.
In the early years, Barbara and George lived in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where Barbara was a supportive wife and mother of two. Opportunity presented itself and Barbara and George moved to Houston, Texas in 1971. Houston presented the perfect opportunity for Barbara to do the things she loved: entertaining, cooking, decorating their home for the various holidays, reading, playing bridge and cheering the LSU Tigers on to victory.
Barbara maintained long and deep relationships with many of her childhood friends from Baton Rouge, Louisiana and developed many new ones in Houston.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George R, Thompson Sr.; her parents Lilly and “Bailey”, her older sister Joyce Van der Henst and brother John Herbert Bailey Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Lynn Thompson of Houston; son Randy Thompson and daughter-in-law Maggie of New Braunfels, Texas; sister Rose Mary Gerald ; sister Betty Sue Berthelot and sister Cathy Jones, all of Baton Rouge. Barbara had numerous nieces and nephews most of whom are in Baton Rouge as well.
Galatians 2:20 – “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
