Beth Gillett passed away peacefully on Thursday, the 5th of July 2012, due to complications resulting from Rheumatoid Arthritis. Beth was surrounded by her family and friends in Montgomery, Alabama, where she has lived for the past three years. Beth loved her time with her daughter's family in her precious cottage.
Born on the 15th of December 1938, in Lubbock, Texas, to John Noble and Leila Novelle Davidson, Beth was both Homecoming Queen and Cheerleader in high school. Continuing her education, Beth attended Texas Tech where she pledged Kappa Alpha Theta, cheered for the Red Raiders, and was a Tech beauty. She later attended the University of Texas where she met her husband, Robert Bruce Gillett, MD. Beth enjoyed her work as Executive Assistant to bank presidents in Galveston and Dallas.
Beth and Bob established their home in Houston, Texas, where they raised their children, Jennifer and Chris. As a homemaker, Beth was exceptional. There were thoughtfully assembled decorations for each holiday, and Beth had an eye for perfection with her Christmas tree, needlepoint, and Rose Medallion collection.
Always dedicated to serving her community, Beth volunteered at Park Plaza Hospital and served as secretary for the River Oaks Women's Association. Active with her sorority sisters, Beth was President and Secretary of the Houston Kappa Alpha Theta Alumnae and Chairman of the Rush Board.
Her children attended The Kincaid School where Beth was President of The Mother's Club and Chairman of The Book Fair. She coordinated the Kinkaid Lower School Library volunteers and organized the quilters for the annual Quilt Auction. Beth also taught Children's Sunday school at Chapelwood United Methodist Church of Houston.
Beth Gillett was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Bruce Gillett. She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Seale and her husband Brooks; and her son, Chris Gillett and his wife Rachael; her grandchildren, Christopher Robert Gillett, Margaret Elizabeth Gillett, Michael James Gillett, Brooks Robert Seale, Jr., John Noble Seale and Hilton Gillett Seale. Known to her grandchildren as "Mimi," Beth made each of them feel that he or she was her favorite.
The family would like to thank her dedicated sitter Margaret Humphries for the love and friendship she demonstrated for Beth. They spent their days laughing, talking and watching old black and white movies together.
A memorial service, celebrating Beth's life, is to be conducted at half-past eleven o'clock in the morning on Wednesday, the 11th of July, in the sanctuary of Chapelwood United Methodist Church, 11140 Greenbay Street in Houston, where Dr. Scott Endress, Pastor of Reaching and Senior Adult Ministries, is to officiate.
Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent Fellowship Hall.
Prior to the memorial service, the family will have gathered for a private interment at Glenwood Cemetery in Houston.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in Mrs. Gillett's name be directed to the charity of one's choice.
