Betty Ann Napp Hand went home to the Lord on January 19, 2022, at the age of 97. Born October 20, 1924, in New Orleans, Louisiana, she was the daughter of Hilda Schloegel and Charles L. Napp, Jr. She was preceded in death by her cherished husband of 50 years, Theodore Francis (“Ted”) Hand, as well as her parents and older brother Charles Louis Napp, III, all of New Orleans. A woman of great faith, Betty was a loving wife and mother who travelled the world, raising her children and supporting her husband’s occupation, including extended periods of time spent in Louisiana, New Jersey, London, England, Houston, Texas, Nebraska and finally Dallas, where she peacefully passed away, surrounded by her four devoted children.
Part of that greatest generation, Betty attended Dominican College in New Orleans until the beginning of World War II. She supported the wartime effort while awaiting the return of her future husband, Ted, from active duty as a naval aviator in the Pacific Theater. Betty loved being a homemaker and had a talent for collecting antiques and for interior decorating. She and her family were active parishioners for many years at St. Cecilia Parish in Houston. In addition, she generously volunteered her time to the Charity Guild of Catholic Women and the St. Vincent de Paul Society in Houston.
Betty is survived by her sister, Mary Bordes, of Harahan, LA, her children, Theodore F. Hand, Jr. (Nancy), of Littleton, CO, Timothy P. Hand (Patti), of Dallas, TX, M. Martha Hand, of Denton, TX, and Carol E. Kujawa (Mark), of Colorado Springs, CO, her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 4, at St. John Vianney Church in Houston, with burial services to follow at Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
