Betty went to be with her Lord on June 12, 2021. Betty Bernice Bykkonen was born on March 7, 1944 to her parents, Beatrice and William Bykkonen, in the small town of Calumet in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Betty is one of eight children, four brothers (William, Robert, Dennis, and Ronald) and three sisters (Arbutus, Shelby, and Darlene).
She lived in Calumet (on the shores of Lake Superior) through high school and then moved to Detroit, Michigan to work for Ford Motor Company. There she met Harold and they were married on September 13, 1969 In Dearborn Heights, Michigan. Betty and Harold have been blessed with three children (Tracey, Jeffry, and Jason) and three grandchildren (Peyton, Abby, and Jackson). Betty and Harold were married for almost 52 years.
Harold worked for ExxonMobil for 37 years, in seven different locations, and finally retired in Houston in 2004. During his working years, Harold traveled often and Betty devoted her time and amazing talents to raising the children. She was the perfect wife, mother, and, later, grandmother. When the children went off to college, Betty worked in the law library of Bracewell and Patterson and retired in 2005.
In their retirement years, Betty and Harold traveled often, enjoying visits with many friends and family in Houston, the Chicago area, and Upper Peninsula Michigan. They particularly enjoyed cruising the Caribbean and Pacific. But Betty always thought, first and foremost, of home and family and was very proud of her children and grandchildren.
Betty and Harold have been members of St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Houston for more than 40 years; Betty was very active in the church and often volunteered. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Darlene.
