Betty Jean May Wehmeyer was born in Houston, Texas on August 21, 1935 at 6:37 AM at Memorial Hospital to Ben Albert May and Jennie Elizabeth Karbowski. She passed away peacefully in Magnolia, Texas on February 19, 2024 at the age of 88.
She was baptized at North Side Lutheran Church of Houston, Texas on November 17, 1935. On April 10, 1949 she was confirmed in the same church with Reverend John Harder officiating at both services. On February 4, 1956 she married the love of her life Clarence Edward Wehmeyer in the same church with Reverend S. T. Schroeder officiating. She was a member there until the start of a mission congregation in the summer of 1956 which called Clarence and her to become Charter Members of Abiding Savior Lutheran in Northeast Houston. In September of 1979 she joined Faith Lutheran in Bellaire and remained an active member with Faith until February of 2008. Over the years she was a member of multiple different Lutheran and Methodist churches around the state and lastly attended Wildwood Methodist Church of Magnolia, Texas.
She lived life to the fullest and tried to keep things positive and fun while taking the many talents the Good Lord blessed her with and sharing them with as many people as she possibly could. She was a proud alumni of Jefferson Davis High School which she graduated from on June 5, 1953. Clarence and her successfully owned and operated Colonial Air for several years and she later occupied her time between volunteering at various Church organizations such as the Texas/Louisiana Gulf Coast Synod under its first two Bishops and serving as the Co-director of Faith House. She was also a substitute teacher for Aldine ISD for 20 years and still found time to volunteer where she shared her talent of telling puppet stories and went on to achieve one of her biggest delights in receiving three “Copyrights” for Puppet Skit Stories she wrote for Sunday School Teachers. There was never a dull moment if she was present and many times she she’d say, “I wouldn’t have missed being on this earth for anything but when my time here is over, I’ll have more fun in Heaven. Hope God is ready for some fun. See ya)!
