Sis. Beulah (Chatman) Jones
Sister Beulah Jones was called home from labor to reward on Tuesday, August 11, 2020. She was in peaceful sleep listening to gospel songs played by Mahalia Jackson (Amazing Grace, Precious Lord, Just A Closer Walk With Thee) while her granddaughter, Christine tenderly caressed her lovely face, until the beautiful moment when her spirit left her body to be with God.
Sister Beulah was born November 19, 1922, in Washington County, Texas, to Jimmie and Mary Winston Chatman. She was the third of six children. She married her lifelong companion, Lewis Jones, Jr., in 1940. To this union, two daughters, Mary and Lynda, were born.
She was raised in a Christian home and confessed her belief in God as her creator and Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, at an early age at prayer service while kneeling at what was known at that time as the Mourning Bench. She never turned her back or failed to pray and she worshipped every Sunday (rain or shine) in church all her life, at St. Peter Baptist Church, Liberty Baptist Church (Independence, Texas), Mt. Olive Baptist Church (Dickinson, Texas), Star Bethel Baptist Church (Houston, Texas), St. Peter Baptist Church (Hempstead, Texas) and Greater Pleasant Grove (Houston, Texas). Sister Beulah loved singing in the choir. She faithfully saw to it that her daughters followed her dedication and service to the Lord. She was steadfast and faithful until her death.
Sister Beulah leaves to mourn and cherish her memory: her two loving daughters, Mary Corrine Jones Gary and Lynda Ann Jones Adamson (Thomas); four grandchildren: Derrick Todd Gary (Dora), Christine Elizabeth Gary Walker (Julius Kim), Patrick Terrell Gary, and Melinda Lelani Jones Jackson (Lynell); her beautiful great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; her beloved nieces, nephews, and cousin; her dear Church family; her friends; and devoted neighbors who treated her like a mother: Mrs. Katie Lee Molten and Mr. A. Smith.
She was preceded in death and greeted in everlasting life, by her husband; her son-in-law (Samuel Ray Gary); her grandson (Samuel Lewis Gary); her father, her mother, her four sisters (Willie Mae Jones, Orvella Price, Malinda McClain, Mattie Prince); and her one brother (J. C. Chatman).
