Billie B Garton

Billie Bess Rice Garton went home to her Lord on Thursday, July 12, 2012 at the age of 86. She was born in Richland, TX to Ben & Bessie Rice. She married her Air Force sweetheart, John Philip on December 15, 1943 in San Antonio, TX. They were devoted to each other for 68 years. Bess was a creative and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother who always made time for her family and friends. She will be remembered for her excellent talents in the kitchen, at the sewing machine, at the piano playing “by ear” and for her beautiful alto voice. She used those talents to serve the Lord at her church home, Bethel Baptist for the past 52 years. Being an only child, she fulfilled her desire for a large family, who she gave graciously of her time.

She leaves behind her loving husband, John, to cherish their memories. Also their four children: Ron Garton & wife Dianne of Baton Rouge, LA; Billy Garton of Waller, TX; Karen Stasko & husband Ken of Grand Prairie, TX; and Glenda Mathis & husband Mike of Katy, TX. Nanny will be greatly missed by her 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren & 2 great-great grandchildren; 4 special nieces; as well as her very close friends who have remained by her side to the end. The family is very grateful for the loving care given to Bess by her caregivers: Bernice Martinez & Adela Lopez and the Hospice team: Yvette Gilbert & Larnya Walker.

Visitation will be from 5-8PM on Sunday, July 15th. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11AM on Monday, July 16th at Brookside Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bethel Baptist Church, General Fund, 25 Tidwell Dr., Houston, TX 77022.
