He moved to California in 1983 where he attended elementary, middle, and high school. His higher education began at UC Berkely in California for 2 years with a planned major in Chemical Engineering. To be near his oldest son, Phoenix, he transferred to St. Edwards University where he graduated with a degree in Applied Chemistry.
Initially, Blake worked at Chapman Marine where he obtained certification in diving. When not diving himself, one of his responsibilities was maintaining the safety of the divers’ depth time, oxygen lines, and evaluation upon return to surface.
He entered the Oil and Gas industry as a field engineer with Schlumberger. He was assigned fracking supervision field work in South Texas with a base location in Laredo. His team members lovingly gave him the nicknames Chuck Norris (Fast Ninja-like) or Eeyore (slow moving) depending on his mood of the day.
Aside from the science of fracking, Blake just loved blowing things up. Ask his Uncle Jon about his attendance at the annual Christmas Tree bonfire and the multiple fireworks displays throughout the year. When they were old enough Phoenix and Desmond shared in the pyrotechnic fun at Uncle Jon and Aunt Jody’s home.
After field work, he relocated to the Schlumberger campus in Sugar Land where he worked as a chemist in the lab. Blake excelled in chemistry and published research articles with the guidance of his PhD supervisor. He was recognized and held patents for developing a process for reusing the large amounts of wastewater needed for fracking.
Blake is remembered as a loving son, father and friend along with his unique sense of humor and laugh. He was always willing to give his all for family and friends.
His mother, Leslie, always let him know he was the best thing that ever happened in her life.
Blake is survived by his 2 sons Phoenix and Desmond, his mother, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Memorial services are planned May 31st with location and time to be determined. Check for notification on this website.
