On April 23, 2025, Brenda Joyce Elliott York of Corpus Christi, TX, was called home to be with the Lord of her salvation. Brenda Joyce was the Beloved Mother of Maranda Elliott York (Victoria) and Alvin James “AJ” York II; Beautiful Grandmother known as Mama BJ to Aariyah Grace Elliott York; Devoted Sister of James “Chubby” Elliott, Helen Thorne, E. Andrew “Hopey” Elliott (Renee), and William “Bill” Elliott (Trina); and long-time friend of over 45 years to Thelma Green. She was a cherished Aunt, Great Aunt, Cousin, Godmother, and Friend. Brenda Joyce will be greatly missed among her family, friends, former colleagues, and the many lives she touched and helped change.
Brenda Joyce was born to Edward and Minnie Lee Davis Elliott on July 10, 1955, in Corpus Christi, TX. She advocated for racial justice through her leadership and lifetime membership in the Corpus Christi Branch of the NAACP. She's been a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church since childhood and served in multiple leadership roles, including usher and a finance team member. She fought every battle that came her way with resilience and strength, including surviving breast cancer. A lifetime learner, she took piano lessons at the local community college and beamed with pride as both her children completed undergraduate and graduate school.
She retired after nearly twenty years of service at the Texas Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bay, helping people find jobs and, with them, the independence and ability to care for themselves and their families. She previously worked as a realtor and a banker. Her smile and spirit were brighter than diamonds, and she had a laugh that sounded like the music she loved to sing. She enjoyed spending time with and taking care of her family. She knew how to create fun and had a wonderful sense of humor. Road trips, family reunions, church services, NAACP conferences, Dallas Cowboys football games, and San Antonio Spurs basketball games filled her with tremendous joy. She was proud of her role as a big sister, looking after her younger siblings, and her time caring for her mother.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Sylvester Elliott, Edgar “Ed” Elliott (Rosetta), Diane Stewart (James), and Ernest “Ernie” Elliott. Brenda was also preceded in death by her nephew, Xavier Roshawn Von'Quis Beasley, and niece, Michelle Renae Elliott Dudley.
Family and Friends are invited to Mt. Zion Baptist Church for a visitation on May 24, 2025 beginning at 11:00 AM with Brenda's Homegoing Services to be held at 12:00 PM.
Final arrangements are entrusted to the capable caring hands of Mario Cantu of Funeral Del Angel and Reginald Sylvester Elliott of Brookside Funeral Home.
