

Brenda Paulk, a devoted wife, loving mother, Nana, and cherished friend, entered eternal rest at her home in Houston, Texas, on January 6, 2025. Born on August 3, 1956, Brenda’s life was a remarkable blend of love, music, faith, and unwavering dedication to her family, church and community.
Brenda’s love of music began early and remained a lifelong passion. An accomplished singer and musician, she earned a bachelor’s degree from Sam Houston State University and dedicated her professional life to teaching music and inspiring countless young minds. She served as an elementary school music teacher and after retiring, continued her calling as the Johnson Memorial School music teacher at St. Stephen’s United Methodist Church. Brenda found immense joy in singing with children, cultivating their love for music, and fostering their talents.
Deeply involved in her church, Brenda’s faith guided her throughout her life. She sang in the church choir, played handbells, participated in choir trips, and was an active member of organizations like Delta Kappa Gamma, Emmaus, Celebration Singers and the Texas Conference Choir Clinic. She also loved to travel and found joy in exploring new places.
Brenda was known for her steadfast and spirited personality. Strong and independent, she approached life’s toughest challenges with determination, leaving a lasting impression on everyone she met. Her strong will was matched by a kind heart, and she was deeply loved by her family and friends.
Brenda is survived by her daughter, Alisa Tackett, her husband John, and grandsons Ian, Finley, and Thomas; her son, Joel Glenn Paulk Jr., his wife Kelsey, and grandson Weston; her mother, Lola Hensley; and her brother, Daniel Bert Hensley Jr., and his wife, Charm. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joel Glenn Paulk Sr. and her father, Daniel Bert Hensley Sr.
A memorial visitation will be held Thursday, January 16, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Pat H. Foley & Company, 1200 W 34th St., Houston, TX 77018. A celebration of Brenda’s life will occur Friday, January 17, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Stephen’s United Methodist Church, 2003 W. 43rd St., Houston, TX 77018.

Brenda’s voice has now joined the heavenly choir, but her legacy will live on in those whose lives she impacted and by the music she shared with them.
