

He was the first born child of Arthur Lee Davis and Clara Katherine Rouquette Davis on the 2nd of September 1922, in Fulton, Texas.
He served in the US Marine Corps during WWII and participated in campaigns on Guam, Bougainville and Iwo Jima. When the war ended he was Honorably Discharged from the Naval Air Station at Corpus Christi. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of
Texas where he also participated in the ROTC program. He married the love of his life, Mary Virginia Jackson in 1946; a marriage of 61 years until her death in 2008. When hostilities broke out on the Korean Peninsula, he was called to Active Duty in the US Army as a 2nd Lt in the Military Police Corps and sent to Korea. After serving in Korea as a Military Police Platoon Leader, he was sent to Japan as the Provost Marshall of a supply base. He returned to the US and was stationed at Ft. Sam Houston, Texas. In December of 1954, the family left Texas and travelled to New York City and in January of 1955 left the USA for Italy. Bruce was stationed at Camp Darby, just north of Livorno. He was discharged from the Army in 1957 and the family returned to the US and settled in a new subdivision, Sharpstown, in Houston. He was a teacher, then Asst. Principal and retired as Principal of Sidney Lanier Junior High School in 1983. He earned a Master’s Degree in Education and Public Administration from the University of Houston.
Bruce was preceded in death by his younger brother, Arthur Eugene (1930). He is survived by his sons, Ford Rouquette Davis and his wife Mary Ann of Friendswood, Barton Bolling Davis, JD and his wife Ann of Southlake, and his daughter, Katherine Norvell McLendon, RN and her husband Paul McLendon of Plantersville; and two sisters, Pauline Moody of Rockport, and Genevieve Schwab of Bend, Oregon. Many other nieces, nephews and other relatives kept in touch with him over the years, sharing family history information.
Bruce and Mary had six grandchildren: Bruce McLendon and his wife Marina of Houston, Stephanie Acharya, MD and her husband Deepak Acharya, MD of Atlanta, Georgia, George Davis, PhD and his wife Joana of Brooklyn, New York, Mary Christine Vogler and her husband Chad of Caldwell, Maranda Revell and her husband William “Will” of Holiday, and Amy Phillips and her husband, Capt. Timothy “Tim” Phillips, USAF, stationed at Lakenheath AFB, England.
He was so proud of his five great-grandchildren who include: Kylie Vogler, Abigail Vogler, and Jackson Vogler, all of Caldwell, Gatlynn Revell of Holiday and Vasco “Ash” Davis of Brooklyn, New York.
Bruce touched the lives of so many during his life through his teaching, service as a Boy Scout Leader and Deacon and member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church since 1960. His love of history transferred to his love of genealogy of his immediate and extended family. Much of his research has been preserved, shared and published as he worked for seven decades on this labor of love. His family history records include over 20,000 individuals and range from the 9th to the 21st centuries.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock this afternoon until seven o’clock this evening, Wednesday, the 2nd of March, in the drawing room of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
A memorial service celebrating his life is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Thursday, the 3rd of March, at St. Paul Presbyterian Church, 7200 Bellaire Boulevard, in Houston, where Dr. Kevin Boyd, Pastor, is to officiate.
The interment is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 5th of March, at Rockport Cemetery in Rockport, Texas.
His family was his most precious legacy of life. In that spirit, the family requests with gratitude that in lieu of customary remembrances memorial contributions in Mr. Davis’ name be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas, 66675.
