C.E. “Jack” Jones, Jr., age 86, of Houston, Texas, passed away on Thanksgiving day, the 22nd of November 2012, from complications of an automobile accident. C.E. was born on the 7th of January 1926, in Bleakwood, Texas. He served his country as a Navy shipman during World War II in the Pacific theater at Espiritu Santo, New Hebrides. After the war, he earned his degree at the University of Houston, the first in his family to do so. He settled in Westbury and, on the weekends, sold real estate in Brazoria County and at Lake Livingston.
Friends and neighbors knew Jack as the “Woodsman of Westbury.” He had a passion for nature, trees especially, and while he lived in Houston, his heart never left the piney woods of East Texas.
Preceding Jack in death are his wife of more than 40 years, Jo Etta Arnett; and his siblings, Ena Owers, Opie Jones, Minnie Bell Palman, Elsie Lee Matthews, Verlene Pleasant and Wanda Virgie. Survivors include C.E’s siblings Edith Sapp, L.V. Byrd, Virgil Jones; Jack’s sons and their wives, Charles and Cheryl Jones, Bartlett and Cassandra Jones; his precious granddaughters, Audra and Lindsey Jones; his companion, Sue Weill; and his extended family Ngy Chang and Sothea Sung.
The funeral service is to be conducted at half-past one o’clock in the afternoon on Sunday, the 25th of November, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, at 1010 Bering Drive in Houston, where Rev. Bill Cole, Associate Pastor of Worship and Praise at Sagemont Church, is to officiate. Prior to the service, during the one o’clock hour, the family will receive friends during a visitation in the Jasek Chapel. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent grand foyer.
The interment service is to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Monday, the 26th of November, at Kirbyville City Cemetery in Kirbyville, Texas.
