Callie Ann Attales Martin passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at the age of 84.
Callie was born on October 28, 1936 to the late Lawrence Attales and Pearl Ardoin Attales in Evangeline
Parish, Pine Prairie, Louisiana.
She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Edwin Martin who died one day earlier on January
13, 2021. Also by an infant son in 1964 and her brother Gerald Attales of Ville Platte, Louisiana.
Callie is survived by her daughters Diana Sue Martin and Kathryn Elizabeth Martin McCallum, both of
Houston, Texas, and her four grandchildren: Leah Celeste Crochet, Joshua Charles Crochet, Sara Anne
McCallum and Katie Carol McCallum. Also by her brother Wayne Attales of Ville Platte, Louisiana.
Graduating from Ville Platte High School in Ville Platte, Louisiana in 1955, she was a member of the Beta
Club and Homecoming Court.
On April 16, 1955, Callie married Charles Edwin Martin in Ville Platte, Louisiana. They were married 65
years.
Callie achieved a certificate from Spencer Business College at Lafayette, Louisiana in 1962.
In 1963 Callie and Charles moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana where they lived and worked 34 years.
Callie was the General Office Supervisor of Woolco in Baton Rouge during the mid 70’s.
A creative person, Callie had an eye for design and an ear for music. She was an accomplished
seamstress. Her specialty was heirloom sewing for her grandchildren; she made beautiful Christening
gowns and smocked outfits.
Upon retiring, Callie and Charles relocated to Houston, Texas to be closer to their daughters and
grandchildren.
She died at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Katy, Texas of complications from COVID-19.
Callie loved nurturing and family gatherings, and she kept in close contact with her family. She loved all
children, and she will be warmly remembered by her grandchildren as an affectionate, caring
grandmother. She was an excellent cook, and she shared her recipes and culinary knowledge with her
daughters and grandchildren. A tremendously loving and curious person, Callie was a constant
inspiration to her daughters.
Callie devotedly cared for her husband for 65 years, and she followed him one day after he died.
Callie and Charles will be interred at Memorial Oaks Cemetary in Houston, Texas and were members of
Saint John Vianney Catholic Community
