Camila Orihuela was born to Leandro Orihuela and Julia Cortes de Orihuela on August 5, 1933, in the city of Palpan Morelos, Mexico. She had six brothers and sisters: Victoria, Juan, Guadalupe, Efrain, Luis, and Maria. Camila was blessed with two children: Hector and Irma.
She enjoyed and loved cooking, where at some point she managed her own restaurant. After a few years managing the restaurant, she had to stop so she could fully care for her children. In 1972, her nephew, Luis Orihuela, encouraged her to take a job in Houston, Texas. He helped her with the move, making Houston her new home.
Once in Houston, she started visiting La Primera Iglesia Apostolica de la fe en Cristo Jesus, located at 3902 Cochran Street, where Bro. Damasio Borrego was pastoring. Shortly thereafter at the age of 40, he baptized her in Jesus Name on July 15, 1973.
Camila would travel back and forth to Alta Palmira, Mexico. Her cousins and the rest of the family would anxiously await her return. With here visits back to Alta Palmira, she would bring them clothes, and during her stay she cooked special dinners, as well as enjoy some travel time.
She loved her family and took pride in spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Camila always watched over them, always making sure they were well fed before heading out to school. She never failed to be available for her family, regardless of their need.
Her love for cooking became evident as she joyously cooked for church events or fundraisers whenever she was asked to do so, especially within the ladies’ auxiliary department. In 2008, she supported FEBE Prison Ministry for five years where she helped prepare meals for the prisoners – at times preparing up to 10 lbs of rice.
