Dear Trent, 
Every time your mom and I would talk on the phone, when the conversation topic would turn to you, she would say, “Trent turned out pretty great, didn’t he?”  Of course, I always agreed wholeheartedly.    She was so proud of you, of your personal accomplishments, your tender devotion to your family, your work ethic, your dedication to swimming, your spiritual maturity, and your thoughtfulness.  

I am confident she would also be proud of the way you and your dad are caring for each other in this season.  She would feel so loved by the way you are both honoring her memory, too.   Good work, cousin.  

I love you.  I’m thankful that I’ve always had you to look up to.  I am sad for your profound loss. I’m glad to be in your corner always but especially  during this season.

This is my mom next to my cousin Annie Phillips.

We all had such a wonderful time and Candy and I were busy trying to plan the next family trip. My beautiful cousin was very much loved by all of the Cheek clan and she will be greatly  missed. It is comforting to know that Candy is now with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and with her precious daughter, Joy, whom she loved so very much. ❤️❤️❤️

Candy was a great wonderful woman, always full of fun quips and witty words, and her beauty was just always remarkable.
We will miss her as I know that you will!

I have so many happy life memories with Candy that are coming back to me in waves: wild and funny experiences carpooling to and from high school, conversations filled with current crushes, the newest Papagallo colors, our deepest wishes and fears, and of course, Elvis. My most treasured memory though, is her thoughtful and intuitive sense that I just HAD to meet one of her work colleagues who she insisted was so right for me. Against our protests she insisted we escort each other to her wedding, and the rest is history: 51 wonderful years and counting with my precious husband, Hugh. Candy seemed to live her life fully and deeply in times of joy and times of unbearable challenge. I will remember her with joy and am so glad she was in my life.
