Carl Leonard Cox

Born on November 22, 1938, Carl lived a full and devoted life marked by faith, family, and steadfast love. He married the love of his life, Nancy Jo Cox, on April 28, 1961 and together they built a beautiful life.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Carl dedicated his life to his family and a remarkable career in sheet metal work. He took immense pride in raising his three daughters — Julie Duke, Nancy Shoemaker, and Cheryl Guenther — and found his greatest joy in watching his family grow across generations. Carl was a proud and lifelong member of Sheet Metal Workers Local Union 54, dedicating decades to his trade and to those he worked alongside. Over the years, he served many roles within the union; Instructor, Business Agent, Business Manager, and following retirement in 2001, he continued to teach apprenticeship classes for several years.

His leadership and mentorship shaped generations of craftsmen, and in December 2024, he was honored for 60 years of dedicated service to Local 54.

Known for his integrity, humility, and strong work ethic, Carl was deeply respected both on and off the job. He believed in the value of an honest day’s work and in giving others the tools to succeed – principles he carried throughout his life. His quiet strength, kindness, and gentle humor left a lasting imprint on all who knew him.

He is survived by his beloved wife Nancy, his daughters Julie Duke (husband, Mike) and Cheryl Guenther (husband, Paul). His grandchildren Carlos Guzman, Kevin Duke (wife, Brenna), Jordan Guenther (wife, Rachael), Lauren Maywald (husband, Will), and Emily Gentry (husband, Brandon); his great-grandchildren Noah and Nixon Guenther, Atlas, Presley and Lincoln Gentry, Emmett and Hannah Duke.

A service celebrating Carl’s life will be held at Brookside Funeral Home and Memorial Park, located at 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039, on Friday, November 14th, 2025 at 10:00 AM.

Carl’s legacy of love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
