

Carmen was born in Santa Marta, Colombia on the feast day of the Virgin del Carmen, July 16, 1931. She was the oldest child of Emilio and Maria Rosa (Bernales) Kloch. She married Charles Frank Libertino in Burns, Kansas on October 28, 1961. She earned her BS in Bacteriology from Pontificia Universitas Catholica Xaveriana and her Masters from Kansas University. She worked as a licensed microbiologist, taught adult education Spanish classes and after the death of her husband worked for Hagerty Advertising as their Office Manager until her retirement in 2006.
Carmen lived in Houston in the same home for 44 years and enjoyed her book club, volunteering at the local school, leading girl scouts and teaching swimming lessons. She was a faithful and loving wife, mother, grandmother and devoted daughter; caring for her mother for over 33 years. Carmen was passionate about her family, books, crossword puzzles, classical music and all manner of sports.
Carmen is survived by her children Eva (Mark) Scott of Austin, Danette (Jerry) Wagnon of San Antonio, and Gian Carlo (Dr. Diana Eclavea) Libertino of Westminster MD, brothers Axel Kloch of Houston and Fred (Yolanda) Kloch of Bogota, Colombia. Carmen was blessed with 8 grandchildren and many beloved relatives. She is preceded in death by her husband Charles Libertino, parents and in-laws.
Services will be held at 12:30 pm on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home Chapel in Houston, Texas. A visitation starting at 6pm and rosary at 7pm will be held on January 27, 2016.
