

Carolyn Ann Lipscomb Maples left this life to join her heavenly Father on Wednesday the 27th of June 2012. She was born April 9, 1937, in Uvalde, Texas to Nathan Lee Lipscomb and Bernice Lee Weaver Lipscomb. She and John Maples were married in Beaumont, Texas July 1, 1955. Their family lived in Houston for over 55 years. She and John had two sons – Jim Howard Maples (deceased) and John Lee Maples. Grandson Michael James Maples Hershberger of California, Granddaughters Megan Leigh Maples of Kingwood, and Alexandra Dianne Maples of Canada, Brother David Byron Lipscomb of Luray, W. Virginia, two nephews and four nieces.
She was graduated from Beaumont High School in 1954 where she was a consummate member of Beaumont High School Symphony Orchestra, Concert Band, and Marching Band. She was a gifted musician who won many awards while in high school. She played a violin and percussion instruments – she also played a piano but the violin was her passion. Carolyn turned down the opportunity to play a violin in the Beaumont Symphony Orchestra when she opted instead to marry the love of her life – John Maples. Carolyn also attended the Lamar University in Beaumont where she majored in accounting.
In later years while living in Houston she played a violin in the North Houston Symphony Orchestra. She was a den mother for her two sons Jim & Lee while they were cub scouts in 1965. Her passion for flowers won her a first place prize at the Houston Garden Club circa 1978. She also twice won the yard of the month award at her Spring Shadow home. In the early years of marriage she worked at IDECO in Beaumont, at Tennessee Gas in Houston, Marston’s in San Diego, Ca., and Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance here in Houston. She was known for her ageless beauty, her beautiful smile, her good and pleasant nature and her willingness to lend a helping hand to those in need.
She, John & Sons are members of the Fair Haven Methodist Church for many years.
Carolyn’s funeral services & interment will be conducted at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home at 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas at 3:30 p.m. July 2, 2012 with the Fair Haven Methodist Church Pastor Presiding.
Pallbearers: Michael Lucas, Cliff Joffrion, Ken McCall, Walter Cudd, Pat Arnett, and Jim Rucker.
