

Carolyn Lucille Mejia of Missouri City, Texas passed away on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29, 2023 at the age of 82. She was born on December 19, 1940 along with her twin sister Marilyn Louise (Singleton) in Graham, Missouri to James and Emily (Alban) Hook and older brother, Delmar Allen Hook.
The Hook family later moved to Tarkio, Missouri before they eventually settled in St. Joseph, Missouri where the family was completed with the arrival of Carolyn’s younger sister, Kathryn Aileen (McReynolds).
Carolyn attended Benton High School in St. Joseph. She was an exemplary student and was named Miss United Way of Greater St. Joseph the same year her twin, Marilyn, was Homecoming Queen for Benton. She fell in love while in high school and married Robert (Bob) Mejia during Christmas break of her senior year. She graduated in 1959.
After high school, she and her husband moved to Stet, Missouri where they welcomed their first child together, Kimberly Sue. The family then relocated to southwest Iowa where they resided in several small towns over the years and Carolyn gave birth to her second daughter, Julie Ann. While Robert was advancing his career in secondary education, Carolyn began a career in banking while remaining a dedicated homemaker and mother.
Carolyn and Bob moved to the Houston area in 1985 and made their final home in Missouri City, TX. Carolyn eventually retired from banking as the Executive Assistant to the President of a large Houston bank after 35+ years in the industry.
Retirement was a much welcomed period in Carolyn’s life. She traveled extensively with her husband, doted over two grandsons and was heavily involved with her church. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and quilting items for her church, family and friends. She provided countless desserts and casseroles for church gatherings and remained active in its quilting and prayer groups until her health no longer permitted.
Carolyn is preceded in death by both parents, her brother, husband Robert (Bob) Mejia and younger grandson, Samuel James Mejia Chiaramonte.
She is survived by her sisters Marilyn (Larry) and Kathy (David Fausey), daughters Kimberly Womack (West) and Julie Sparks (Kenneth), grandson Westin Womack plus many sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews as well as their families, all whom she loved dearly.
A graveside service with inurnment next to her husband at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery in Houston, Texas will take place on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at 10:00 am.
