Carolyn...I could go on forever...I’ve known her almost 45 years!!! I was Little Anne to her for years...she and Bill moved in to the house across the street from my parents when my mom was pregnant with me!! So many memories rushed back to me today while at the funeral. I hate that we didn’t all keep in touch over the years...I mean we grew up together sitting outside in the front yards, even playing in the street  when we got older  😉 Carolyn was THE sweetest ever, like everyone says she had the biggest heart. She was so proud of me during my dance recitals, just like I was her own. I remember her searching everywhere for me a cabbage patch kid when they first came out. She even gave me my life sized raggedy Ann doll. She was there for me when I got married, even helped with a shower! Her kids were like my siblings. Just so many memories of a wonderful lady I am honored to say that I knew!! You will be missed by so many, Carolyn...may you RIP.

We had good conversations over all things. Pets,fanily, how Diana and I would emberass her by acting goofy in the line at the Monday night Goodie shop ritual. We had great times at dinner when I would visit Houston especially when we went to Taste of Texas. Miss You cousin.  TM

I first met Carolyn in 1957 after my family moved to Terre Haute from Indianapolis. I honestly don’t recall exactly how we connected, but we did, and an infatuation/puppy love developed between us. For several months we spent a great deal of time together and she would be at my house or I would be at hers. 
Carolyn loved photography back then and even had her own darkroom in the basement of her house. I recall spending many times in that darkroom with her, developing “pictures” together. In fact, as I am writing this, I can almost still smell the chemicals used in that darkroom.
I recall one afternoon, when I was using an old manual reel push mower to cut the grass at Carolyn’s house. Carolyn would deliberately stand in the path that I was cutting. “Kids being kids” and I would ask her to move. Most of the time she would move over, but this one time she just stood her ground. I told her to move and that I wasn’t going to stop. Well, Carolyn, being Carolyn, she refused to move and although I actually did stop, it wasn’t until I was right up to her and I went just a bit to far and one of the mower blades came in contact with her foot and made a small cut on one of her toes. It’s a memory that has stayed with both of us, all these years and I can still picture that stubborn young girl and that hardheaded young boy in that back yard to this day.
I’m not sure why we quit seeing each other, it may have been when I graduated from Cruft and moved on to Sarah Scott while she still had one more year at Cruft. Or perhaps it was because I was just a stupid young fool that didn’t realize just how special Carolyn was. But even though the relationship changed, the friendship never did, and we have always had a close connection.
Carolyn will always be a huge part of my life and will live forever in my thoughts and soul. Rest in Peace Dear Friend. You are and always will be loved.


I met Carolyn when our sons  and Bill were in Boy Scouts.  
One of my favorite memories of that time was when the troop went a camp out on the north side of town. She called me and said she wanted to take the guys Blue Bell ice cream (her favorite) so that is what we did. 
Her favorite place to go to lunch was Brookwood. (That is a place in Brookshire where handicap people live and work). She loved supporting the people there.  
While Bill and the boys were camping and doing high adventure, Carolyn,Diana and I would do crafts together. I loved that time with them. 
We also went to the theater together. I think that was her passion. 
When Bill and Carolyn moved out of their home , They gave our church furniture and household items and clothing that helped members recover from Harvey.  Some of the items helped kids at a grade school have gifts for their families at Christmas. Last of all more things were sold at a garage sale to help our girls go to camp this summer.
Ever minute with Carolyn was a blessing to me..
HOW she loved her family and all who knew her, loved her.
Carolyn is with her family and she is happy.  Heavenly Father has a great plan for her.
I will miss my friend, she made me a better person.

We met in September 1965, the first week at Purdue and were roommates our Sophomore year.  We were best buddies all through college and up to now.  Even though she moved to Houston and I moved to California and even though adult responsibilities would keep us busy, we were still always there for each other at times of need.   She always supported me in all of my choices.  I know her as Caroline which was what I named her.  At first she wasn't sure about it but grew to like it and used it always in our communications.  We giggled a lot from the time we were in college until now.  She and Bill were here for a visit 3 years ago this fall and it was just like no time had ever passed.  She and my mother adored each other and her mother and I also adored each other so it seemed to be a friendship meant to be.  She seemed more like family than just a friend.  She knew me so well and vice versa.  I have lost a true friend in this world but she told me when she first heard the news about her cancer that she loved God.  She wanted to beat it but she also wasn't afraid as she truly loved God.  These were her words.

Probably my favorite memory of Carolyn Was around Christmas when I was a child I would go over to the York’s house, and Carolyn was often in the kitchen making Christmas candy.  She made the best divinity candy.  She often let me help.   She would get tickled when someone would call her brother Don, and I ( Dawn) would answer.    Her laugh would light up the whole house.  I think I will always remember her that way.   Love you always Carolyn. 

Carolyn was a wonderful kind hearted person I remember when we would go out of town she loved to come over to feed the animals & visit with them and o yes I remember her helping my daughter who was at a young age to bake & decorate a cake for my husband's birthday which I won't disclose what kind no matter what you asked her to do she would if she could. I will miss you my DEAR FRIEND & Neighbor for many years.

Carolyn and I go back to Cruft Elementary school. One of my most vivid memories is of walking to Sarah Scoot Junior HS with Carolyn, Mary McCauley and Sara Silverman. Often, Carolyn walked backwards so we all could easily converse. We had a lot of fun on those walks. I’ll never forget Carolyn’s beautiful smile, and oh those dimples!

Steve and  I met  your mom/dad waaaay back when they were dating!  Bill would bring Carolyn to visit Margaret and Vandy, our wonderful next door neighbors...
   We were on Rockingchair for a few years before moving to Texas, but Margaret always kept us up on  Bill/Carolyn….   Then we were sent back to Greenwood!  Margaret called and said our next door house was available and we bought the house again!   Told Margaret/Vandy they were gluttons for punishment!  
It was about then Bill and Carolyn had you kiddos,  Randy, Tim and you, Diana!  We used to call you “little Margaret” — you followed her around!
We enjoyed your visits as much as they did!  We loved them like family and Bill and Carolyn too!
I know this has been a hard year— losing both parents…. Y’all are still so young, but Carolyn  and Bill loved all the memories you made with them and your children!  I feel like they are looking down and smiling on y’all …
This is not “good bye” to your mom because she and all your loved ones will welcome you into the glories of Heaven one day!

To  My Sister - Memories
You had memories of me before my memories of me.
I don’t have any memories of Dad that I am sure are actual memories and not stories that I have been told. I loved it when you used to ask “Do you have that picture of Dad… No? I’ll send it to you!”
We shared a mother and memories of her. But you had memories of her that I didn’t have. Your memories always surprised me.  “Really? No, I don’t remember that, but I do remember this….”
You were gracious and generous enough to give me the letter Dad wrote to his cousin who was serving during the war.  (In my mind I just heard you say “So that’s where that letter went!”) So even though I don’t have memories, I have a letter that he sat down and typed and held in his hands and signed. And now I can hold it in my hands.
Did you know how beautiful I thought you were when you’d go off to formal dances in your long gowns?
Did you know how special I have always felt when you’d say, “I would never tell anyone else this, but ….”?
Did you know that every time my cats did something amazing, I’d make a mental note of how to describe it to you because I knew you would think it was amazing too?
Did you know how cool I thought it was that some of our cats had the same names?
Did you know that when there were difficult people in my life, I always knew that you would take my side?
Did you know how special I felt when you asked to hear about my job and always made me feel that I was the smartest person ever?
We talked about childbirth, and our babies – how difficult and how wonderful they were. How, even if a baby does not survive, there are precious fetal cells that remain in the mother forever, and rush to an ailing site when a mother needs healing. For the rest of the mother’s life!
Did you know how much I enjoyed my rare trips to Texas, sitting around the table with all of your kids? I knew that the adulation they showed me was not because I was a great aunt, but because you raised them to believe I was.
