Charles Edward Jones Sr. was born in Blakey, GA on October 20, 1949, to Willie Jones Sr. and Jimmie Mae McDowell Jones, one of twelve loving children. Charles attended Washington High School before moving to New York, one of his favorite places. Thereafter, he enlisted into the US Marine Corps until he was honorably discharged and spent time in Florida before settling in Texas.
Charles met the greatest love of his life, Gloria at a gathering in Galveston, TX. Eager to start their new lives together, the two were married in 1979. Charles and Gloria were eager to start a family of their own, and their children meant the world to them. Charles Jr. and Monica were born, making their family complete.
Though he loved gardening, and cooking, Charles’s favorite role was being a grandparent. He treasured their time with their grandkids and loved being their Granddaddy, never failing to share cookies or sit in the driveway to watch them play.
Charles will always be remembered for his warm personality and the way that he always welcomed everyone. We’ll always imagine hearing him say, “You look like a Jones,” as a compliment one more time. We couldn’t have asked for a better husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, son, and friend, and will miss Charles every day. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.
Charles was preceded in death by parents, Willie, and Jimmie Mae Jones; brothers, Freddie B., and Willie Jr.; and sister, Helen.
He is survived by wife, Gloria; children, Charles Jr., and Monica; grandchildren, Alicia, London, and Bryce; brothers, Marcellus, and Lucious; sisters, Katie, Irene, Elaine, Ida, Patricia, and Linda; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
