Charlie was born on November 7, 1936, the eldest son of Edna (Bomar) and Royce Henry Miller. He attended San Jacinto High School and was a proud graduate of The University of Houston. While at UH he was an Athletic Trainer from 1955-1957, and through that experience became an ardent supporter of the UH Athletic Department, working tirelessly as an alumni with legendary Coaches Guy V. Lewis and Bill Yeoman. He was also a prominent leader in Frontier Fiesta during its heyday, and was a member of the H Association.
Upon graduation he joined his father in the family business, Hou-Tex Laundry & Cleaning Co. After the business was sold he became a commercial real estate agent and eventually formed his own company, Charles V. Miller & Associates. Charlie was a fighter with a strong will and determination, and a hard worker who didn’t let obstacles get in his way. He always had an angle on a deal. A early example of his determination was at San Jacinto High School when he went out for the football team. Charlie was so small they didn’t have a pair of football shoes to fit him, so he tried out in his bare feet. Charlie lived life to its fullest, and he brought happiness and humor to the many lives he touched. Charlie passed on to his family his appreciation for great food and travel. His love of fine dining and wines brought him into contact with many major chefs in Houston who became close friends.
Charlie was a lifetime Committeemen of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo where he volunteered for 28 years on many different committees such as the Corral Club, International Club, Livestock and Wine Auction.
He is survived by the mother of his children, Charlotte Romeo Miller; daughters, Charla Miller Minnich and her husband Edward of Austin, Texas; Cheryl Miller and her children Michael, Kirby, Shelby and Corbin Weiss; sons Charles V. Miller, Jr. and his wife Kim, and their children Charles V. Miller, III (Trace) and Macy; Christopher B. Miller and his wife Kimberly, and their children Madison, Annelise, and Christopher B. Miller, Jr., all of Houston. Charlie is also survived by his sister Juanita Miller Evans of Houston, Texas, and brother, Royce H. Miller, Jr. (Feller) of Kyle, Texas; and aunts, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Angie Govia for her care of and dedication to Charlie this past year.
