Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at Houston National Cemetery with Deacon Russ Carroll of St. Mary Catholic Church, officiating. We will gather prior to the service at 12:00 p.m. at the American Heritage Funeral Home. Celebration of life to be held following the service at the Funeral Home from 1 to 3 p.m.
Charlie was born in San Antonio, Texas to Charles and Bettie Schaeffer on January 19. 1942. He went to school at Douglas MacArthur High School and then enlisted in the US Navy. He was a proud Veteran of the Vietnam War and the Cuban Missile Crisis and served on the USS Saint Paul. He married Kathleen on August 16, 1980 in the St. Luke’s United Methodist Church Gethsemane. He spent a good portion of his career working as a Draftsman for the oil, gas, and space industries. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Charlie is preceded in death by his parents Charles and Bettie Schaeffer, his granddaughter Hannah Mae, and great-granddaughter Annabelle.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife Kathleen, daughter Christine and husband Michael, son John and wife Caren, son Steven and wife Kim, son Grant and daughter Sharon and husband Jeff. He is also survived by siblings Rosemary, Debra and husband Richard, John and wife Shirley and Susan. Charlie was blessed with eighteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and multiple extended family.
