Cherry Kendrick Schwarz

Cherry Kendrick Schwarz was welcomed home by Jesus and her late husband John in the early morning hours on Tuesday, the 18th of June 2024. She was born in Corpus Christi on the 29th of September 1938, to Michael Clark Kendrick and Dorothy Rhodes Kendrick.

Cherry graduated from W.B. Ray High School in Corpus Christi and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from The University of Texas at Austin. While at UT, her brother set her up on a blind date with the love of her life and future husband of 59 years. John and Cherry were married in Corpus Christi on the 20th of February 1960. After brief stays in Shreveport and Lafayette, Louisiana, they relocated to Houston in 1963 where John continued his career in the energy industry.

Cherry was a member of St. Martin's Episcopal Church for 55 years and served on the Altar Guild. She was also a member of Lakeside Country Club, Houston Country Club, Rockport Country Club, Galveston Country Club, and Kissing Camels Golf Club in Colorado Springs.

Cherry enjoyed cooking and playing bridge (Life Master), golf, and tennis, but her true passions were being a devoted wife and mother and studying God’s Word. At 40, she renewed her faith, studied the Bible, and organized Bible study groups, which she led in her home for 25 years.

Cherry was preceded in death by her husband, John Fisher Schwarz; parents, Michael Clark Kendrick and Dorothy Rhodes Kendrick; brother, Michael Clark Kendrick, Jr.; and brothers-in-law, Charles Norman Schwarz, Jr., and Glenn Edward Vaughan.

She is survived by her son, John Fisher Schwarz, Jr. and wife Virgilia; daughter, Susan Schwarz Cornett and husband Casey; and daughter, Shelly Schwarz Blalock and fiancé Carter France; sisters-in-law, Rosalie Chiodo Schwarz, and Betsy Schwarz Vaughan. Cherry is also survived by nine grandchildren, John Fisher Schwarz III and wife Taylor, William Schwarz and wife Emily, Kathleen Schwarz Kichler and husband Gregory, Robert Schwarz and wife Jennifer, Marshall Cornett, Stuart Cornett and wife Anna, Michael Blalock, Jr., John Blalock, and Kendall Blalock; two great-grandchildren, Henry and Sophie Schwarz; and several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service is to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Friday, the 28th of June, at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road in Houston.

Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held in the adjacent Bagby Parish Hall.
