

He was born June 10, 1945 in Seoul, the Republic of Korea to Choon Kyu Park and Kyung Sook Choi. He attended both high school and college in Korea and worked for Hyundai Industries, before coming to the United States to attend the University of Texas at Austin, where he graduated with a Masters of Science in Engineering. A longtime resident of Houston, he worked at several renown engineering firms in the field of oil / gas starting in the late 70s. His work was part of the design and construction supervision of many off-shore platforms all over the world from Europe, Asia, and Africa. He continued his work as a Civil Engineer in many additional fields up to these final days, well past retirement.
His passions were his family, the Church, his work, and being active. He went on to graduate from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity with Biblical Language. This was one of his most cherished accomplishments. He was a member of the New Community Baptist Church; in the past he was active in the establishment and support of several Korean churches over the decades (both large and small) whose work for the Church will be remembered by many. His passion for the Lord’s word will be missed by those he helped lead and encourage. His passion for being active even at an older age included playing tennis in his neighborhood friend group, cycling, walks with his wife. His past accomplishments include finishing the Houston Marathon and several MS150 cycling events.
He is survived by his wife Young, his sons and their wives: Jerome and Staci / Andrew and Be. His extended family includes two brothers, two sisters, two brothers-in-law, and four sisters-in-law. He was the acting patriarch of the Houston extended family and leaves many grand children, nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews behind.
He is remembered greatly by those who knew him for this smile, kindness, generosity, and the warmth he leaves behind.
