Chris was born in Wabash, Indiana to Max and Jean Gilbert. She proudly received both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Education degree from Purdue University where she was voted captain of the women’s track team. Chris moved to Houston in 1988, continuing her career within the Spring Branch School District and where, early in her career, she was honored by being named “Teacher of the Year.”
To her family, Chris was a most beloved daughter, sister and sister-in-law. To her friends and co-workers, she was loyal and resolute and, to her students, she was a trusted resource and a guiding light. She was a member of the Foundry United Methodist Church of Houston, the John Purdue Club and a committed supporter of many charitable organizations, including Samaritan's Purse. She enjoyed reading, music, devotional time and, of course, Purdue athletics! Chris will be greatly missed by all of those fortunate enough to have known her.God bless you, Chris.
The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations can be extended to any of the organizations mentioned above as well as through a scholarship that has been created in her memory by Spring Woods High School of Houston.
