Columbus Mills Walker was born on November 10th, 1934 in Arp, TX to Anddrein Walker and Charlie Dennis and he transitioned on August 18th, 2021 at his home as he requested.
Columbus was raised and schooled in the Ft. Worth Texas School District and attended I.M. Terrell High School until he enlisted in the U.S. Air force. Columbus served our country from 1952 – 1956 in Japan and Korea as well as being stationed to serve in Denver, CO, Cheyenne, WY and San Antonio, TX. He received a degree from LA Trade Tech in January 1977. Upon being stationed in Texarkana, TX, Columbus met the love of his life, Barbara Jean Keel in December 1959 and married in May 1960, which was the best decision of his life. In September, 1961 the Newlyweds packed up their hopes and dreams and moved to Los Angeles, CA. Once established, the couple was blessed with a beautiful baby daughter, Yo’landa Sherranee’ who was the love and joy of their lives. In 2018, Columbus became widowed from his forever love and wife of almost 58 years.

Columbus was a Master Mason member, March 17, 1967 – Angel City Lodge #18 Free and Accepted Masons, Prince Hall Affiliated of CA. He is adorned with the Apron of the Laborer, which reminds its fraternal wearer to labor for the good of others, especially his Brethren.
Columbus worked for the U.S. Post Office in Texarkana from 1956 – 1961. He worked for REA Express, Inc. from 1961 – 1975 until they closed. During his time with the company, he moved to Dallas/Ft. Worth for two years to help build the Railroad Express at which time the DFW Airport was also being built, 1971 – 1973. Afterwards, he moved back to Los Angeles and retired in 1975, he was a retired honorary member of the International Brotherhood of the Teamsters.
After retirement, he bought a hotdog cart and sold hotdogs all over Los Angeles and Hollywood until he decided to return to work (that retirement didn’t last long). He pursued the career of Commercial Driver and traveled all across the country from 1994 -2008 then he retired for a second time at the age of 75 years.
After a blessed life well lived, Columbus departed this earthly life on the morning of August 18th, 2021 for eternal peace and rest with Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Columbus was preceded in death by his parents Anddrein Walker and Charlie Dennis and his wife Barbara Walker.
Columbus is survived by his loving and devoted Daughter Yo’landa Walker Jackson and dedicated son in love Derek Jackson, granddaughter Tati’ana Jackson, grandson Bryce Jackson, God-granddaughter Shantwinecka Taylor and God-GREAT granddaughter Jade Dunning that meant the world to him. Goddaughters Theresa Smith, Wanda Horace and Godsons George McIntyre, Jr., and Tony Simmons. His brothers; Forrace Walker, Sr. (Vivian), Ricky Charles Walker (Annette), Charles Dennis (Jean), Nathan Dennis (Kathy), a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
Columbus and Barbara were very special people in that they never met a stranger, they loved people and opened their homes to any and all, which attributed to them having many, many extended sons, daughters and families.
We can truly say that the world is a better place having known Columbus Mills Walker also known as “DOD” (Dear Ole Dad) by his daughter, “DOGD” (Dear Ole Granddaddy), “C” by his brother and “Uncle C” by his nieces and nephews and just plain old “C.M.” by other adoring family members. Columbus was always the life of the crowd and always had a kind smile, wit, laughter and a positive spirit. He had a wealth of knowledge and was always willing to share that wisdom with others. Heaven will be blessed with another Angel.

A visitation will occur Friday, August 27, 2021 from 8:15 AM to 9:00 AM, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038. A celebration of life will occur Friday, August 27, 2021 from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038. A committal service will occur Friday, August 27, 2021 from 10:45 AM to 11:15 AM at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038. A repass will occur Friday, August 27, 2021 from 11:15 AM to 1:15 PM, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038.
