Corey Louis Arthur

Corey Louis Arthur, also known as “Ja’Corey” to most, was born on May 18, 1980, to parents, Freddie and Glorita Arthur, in Houston, Texas. He was the middle child of 3 siblings. Growing up, Corey enjoyed music, karate, basketball, football, and boy scouts. He also loved spending time with his family, especially during the summer breaks and holidays.

Corey attended Stephens Elementary and Hambrick Middle School in Aldine. After graduating from MacArthur High School, he attended Lon Morris College, where he played basketball on scholarship. Corey obtained his CNA certification from Gary Job Corps Community and pursued a career in the medical field. Over the years, he worked at multiple hospitals, nursing homes, and healthcare facilities, but spent the last years of his life working in operations at IAH airport. He was also an active member of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU TX).

Corey attended Church of Jesus Christ Global Fellowship, where he served as a deacon of the church. He always had a passion for being of service to others and making sure that the people around him had a smile on their face. Corey was a loving son, devoted father, protective big brother, comedian of the family, and a true friend to those around him. He will forever be missed.

On June 30, 2023, God called him home to rest. Corey was preceded in death by his father, Freddie Louis Arthur, and is survived by son, Derwyn Lee Arthur; mother, Glorita Arthur; sister, Cassie Arthur; brother, Marcus Johnson (Melanie Johnson); and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends/classmates.

A visitation for Corey will be held Friday, July 14, 2023 at 1:30 PM at Paradise North Chapel, 10401 W. Montgomery rd, Houston, TX 77088. A funeral service will occur Friday, July 14, 2023 at 2:30 PM. A committal service will occur Friday, July 14, 2023 at 3:45 PM at Paradise North Cemetery, 10401 W. Montgomery rd, Houston, TX 77088.
