What a surprise to learn Neil was deceased, since he was much younger then me. Neil was Cheri and my friend in Ponce City, Oklahoma about 1970-73 time period while Neil and I worked with Continental Pipe Line. Cheri is my wife and worked with Conoco in their corporate art department. Neil had been to in the military and served in Vietnam. While on leave he had purchased multiple receivers for his listening pleasure and sold us one, which I've recently retired. I've looked for Neil before, but I certainly did not expect to learn he was deceased.

Among all the wonderful, wonderful people that I've worked with at the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center over all these years, none were kinder, friendlier, funnier and a better representative of the goals of the arboretum and the education program than Neil.   Whether he was sharing a snake or a turtle, a leaf or a mushroom, I delighted in watching Neil's connection with the children in his group.  Sitting at the table in the volunteers' lunch room and just chatting always made the day better.  I treasure the times he made me laugh. I send you off with a full heart, my friend. 


Dear Neil,
I am writing you a letter to say good by. I don't think I will be far behind you. I know you are in a better world and must be enjoying it.
I still remember the first hunting trip we both made to the slope of Mauna Kea on the Big Island of Hawaii and I think it was your first Model 70 you purchased. We sure had a good time.

Neil was a member of our family for more than 50 years. A brother, not by blood, but by heart; an uncle, who treated his nephew as a son. 
Over the years, Neil and Michael journeyed from Hawaii to VietNam and subsequently, as employment and travel brought us together ... from North Dakota to Texas, Oklahoma to Arizona and north to Alaska. Through the years we shared travel and sights and companionship ... as only a loving family does.
Neil often regaled us with convincing tall tales and, of course, we believed him completely; until the twinkle in his eye and smile on his face betrayed his exaggeration and he would laugh out loud over our having believed his every word ... as the time he insisted he was being transferred to Hong Kong and was visiting to say farewell... admitting finally that he was actually headed for Wisconsin.
Robert will never forget celebrating his 13th birthday with a solo flight to Houston to be with Uncle Neil, who being the diligent uncle, ensured that the new teenager in the family enjoyed a day in Galveston, taking in the sights that included porpoises leaping through the waves, and oh, yes, lovely young gals modeling their
new bikinis on the beach.
We will continue to hold Neil’s well-lived life in too many memories to recount here, knowing that we were all made the better for having known him as our brother, uncle, and above all, friend.

Neil and I met in Ponca City  as trainees for Continental Pipe Line Co. where we became friends.  I will always remember our hunting trips and fireplace conversations.
Neil was one of the nicest people I have known and do not know anyone who had a negative thought about him.
