Darlene was married to Wayne McCaffrey in 1947, and they had three beautiful loving children. Darlene was known as Nanaw by all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Nanaw was always kind, loving and supportive.
Darlene was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Wayne McCaffrey Sr., their children, Mary “Libby” & Duane Hudson and Joseph “Randy” McCaffrey; parents, Tilton Price Sullivan, Sr., and Marsie Richardson Sullivan; siblings, Dorothy Sullivan Walker, Elgin Euvern Sullivan, Delaine Sullivan Robbins, Danyce Sullivan McArthur and Norma Sullivan Algood.
She is survived by her son, Wayne Gilbert & Linda McCaffrey Jr.; 7 grandchildren, Wayne & Martha McCaffrey III, Wendy & Jeff Ruen, Joseph McCaffrey, Matthew & Cindy McCaffrey, Mandy & Anthony Mistretta, Katie McCaffrey and Chris McCaffrey; 13 great-grandchildren, Alyssa & Ashton Childers, Hudson Ruen, Noah Ruen, Jax Ruen, Nathan McCaffrey, Cole Mistretta, Arden Mistretta, Madelyn McCaffrey, Owen McCaffrey, CJ McCaffrey, Joshua McCaffrey, Olivia McCaffrey and Layla McCaffrey; siblings, Tilton Price & Betty Sullivan Jr., Demetrius Sullivan Hardy, Johnny Sullivan McMillan, Paul David & Patsy Sullivan, Rebecca Sullivan Bush & Thomas Bush, and Timothy & Cathy Sullivan.
Nanaw lived a life of grace and love. Every person that knew her in life was witness to the transformative power of Jesus Christ in her. She lived a servant’s life and modeled a servant’s heart. She loved on people with hugs, kisses and smiles. She called them and had long conversations. She fed into their lives. She made the meals, drove the miles, opened her home, and dropped everything to attend to those who were sick and could not help themselves. More than once, she lovingly and patiently sat with people and prayed over them while they took their final breaths. She laughed, cried, supported, encouraged, and prayed for all of us. She truly loved the way Christ loves. And for some, she was the closest example of Christ’s unconditional love for us all.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4:7)
