Davelene (Davie) Hart Fore was born on January 10, 1938, in Baytown, Texas. She passed away peacefully on May 20, 2024, after suffering from dementia for several years. Davie was the fifth of eight children of Dave Bronson Hart and Thelma Mason Hart. Her family moved around because of her father’s work, and they lived in Baytown, Grapeland, and Houston, Texas. Her father, Dave, died of lung cancer when she was 9 years old. As a result of her father’s early death, her mother was forced to raise eight children alone with very little income. The older siblings went to work at an early age to help raise the younger ones.
Davie graduated from Aldine High School in 1956, went to school to learn to use the comptometer, and went to work for Rainbow Baking Company.
Davie began attending the Lindale church of Christ, where she met the Elwood Ginn family and moved into their home, as it was convenient for church attendance and her work. Coincidentally, directly across the street lived a young man named Billy Fore. For Billy, it may have been love at first sight. Davie was a little more reserved, but she eventually came around. Billy and Davie were married at Lindale church of Christ on November 19, 1960, and they soon welcomed their two children, Bron and Pam.
Davie lived a life of faithful service to God through her love for her family and friends. She taught children’s Bible classes, taught the ladies’ class, and shared her love of God and Jesus with everyone. She loved to cook for others, clean house, and wash dishes. Her meals were always served with love and sweet iced tea. To many, her chocolate pie was the best and her roast, rice and gravy were fan favorites.
After many years of working in various secretarial positions, she eventually “retired” to stay home and take care of her grandchildren. All four of her grandsons were Nana’s favorite. She would fix them waffles any time of the day and would sing and talk about Jesus to them every chance she had.
Davie prayed for all her family, as well as so many others, and spent many hours on her knees in prayer for them. She prayed for both of her children’s spouses from the day her children were born. God answered those prayers, as they both married faithful Christian spouses.
Davie was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Dave Hart and Roy Hart, two sisters, Vivian Williams and Patricia Taher, and a grandson, Cameron Fore.
She is survived by her husband of over 63 years, Billy Fore, and her children, Bron Fore (Donna) and Pam Wooddell (David) and grandsons, Austin Wooddell (Maggie), Logan Wooddell, Cole Fore, and great grandson, Jackson Craig Wooddell. She is also survived by two sisters, Joyce Riley and Louise Huckabay, and a brother, Donald Hart.
The family would like to recognize Davie’s special caregiver, Deanna Alsup, who faithfully and lovingly cared for her over the last several years. Davie’s family will forever be grateful for her love and tenderness to Davie.
A memorial service for Davelene will be held Saturday, June 8, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Church of Christ in Champions, 13902 Cutten Rd, Houston, TX 77069.
