

David Betancourt, 64 of South Houston passed away Thursday Oct 6, 2016 at his residence. David was born July 29, 1952 in Sinton, Tx. He was the fifth of twelve children born to Santiago and Leonor Betancourt. At the age of 17 he dropped out of high school to join the Army. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. During his tour of duty in Vietnam his platoon of 15 soldiers was sent out into combat, he was one of the two that survived, they had to hide under the other fallen soldier’s bodies to avoid being killed by the enemy. At the age of 50 he decided to go back to school and obtain his GED, as a result of this accomplishment he was asked to throw the first pitch at an Astros game. His desire to learn did not end there, he enrolled in college took courses to be certified as a welding inspector then also learned to play the drums. His passion was his 1976 FLH Shovelhead and riding with his “brothers”. David’s faith in God is what saw him through his battle with cancer. January 2014 he rededicated his life to Christ and was baptize at Sagemont Church . Hours prior to his passing his son and daughter-in-law spent time reading scripture and praying with him.
David was preceded in death by his parents Santiago and Leonor, his brother Jimmy and great grandson Colbee. He is survived by his loving wife of 17 years Lidia, his beloved pets Rooney and Sissy, Son Bobby Lee and wife Maria. Siblings: Flora McAtee (Mike), Thomas Betancourt (Norma), Pauline Charles, Conrad Betancourt, Eloisa Ponce, Bertie Sowell (Tom), Julian Betancourt (Judy), Sam Betancourt Norma Mitchell (Bill), Mary Garcia (Richard) 5 grandchildren , 2 great grandchildren and many other loving relatives and friends.
The Betancourt Family would like to express their gratitude to all the family and friends who came by to visit and pray for David. We also would like to thank the staff from Silverado Hospice that took care of David with respect and compassion.
