

David Chen was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. Born Tsau Whei Chen, he was born 1/17/1937 into a large family with 9 children. After attending high school, he attended the police academy for a short while. He met his life long love, Peh Hwua, and married her in 1964. Then he went to work for a pharmaceutical company until he was urged by his older brother, CC Chen, to come to United States for new opportunities.
Coming to United States was his biggest challenge in life. Unfamiliar with his surroundings and the new language, David faced adversities with persistence and tenacity. He quickly adapted to his new occupation as a motel manager and owner and learned many new trades in maintaining the business. With the encouragement from his brother CC, David thrived in this new country. He became financially successful as a businessman and remained in the same profession until retirement in 1993.
During his lifetime, his biggest success was his family. He was devoted to his family and taught life lessons to his children Marian and Jackson. He passed on his legacy by having taught them life skills for success. His love for his family can be easily witnessed by anyone who has ever known him. David spent the latter part of his life enjoying his time with his grand kids, Morgan, Matthew, Cameron, and Cassidy. He was blessed to have routinely travelled with them on vacations and attended many school activities with them. He has left wonderful fond memories with each one of them.
During his retirement, David enjoyed spending time on the golf course building genuine relationships with his friends. He became a self taught golfer who was skillful to be respected by his friends. He was often asked to coach his fellow golfers. His large circle of friends is a symbol of his good character and his likability as a person.
David appreciated life. He was grateful for the wonderful life he had. He was blessed with a loving family, both immediate and extended, and a large circle of friends. As he said many times, his life was fulfilled.
