

Major David L. Henson, USAF Retired, passed away on September 25, 2021. He is preceded in death by his father Lee Henson, mother Gertrude Strawn, brother Charles, son Duane, first wife and mother of his children Marilyn McCurnin Henson.
He is survived by his children Marjorie, Keith, Steven and Laci, wife Shirley Babineaux- Henson, her children Taylor and Donnie, numerous grandchildren, great and great great.
David was born in Kansas City, Kansas on December 31, 1934. His parents were divorced in the early 1940s and he lived with his father and several other families while his father served with the Navy Seabees during WW2. He graduated from Central High School in Kansas City, Missouri in 1952 and joined the U.S. Air Force which resulted in honorably serving his country for 23 years.
These years were spent in aircraft maintenance while also being promoted to SSgt. After attending OCS (Officer Candidate School) he spent 16 years as an officer attaining the rank of Major. His service assignments were in Texas, Illinois, Mississippi, Ohio, Michigan, Montana, Missouri, Iceland, Norway and Canada. He was proudest of being selected as an exchange officer with the Canadian Forces serving as a staff officer at their National Defense Headquarters. Military awards for his service include Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Service Medal twice, and Air Force Commendation Medal.
After retirement from the Air Force he was in real estate sales in Missouri and Kansas as both a salesperson and broker. This was during the 1980s when real estate was not one of the best professions to be in. He later served for 19 years as a store manager for Color Tile and later as a department head for Home Quarters. David was a Master Mason and served as Worshipful Master S.P Waltrip Lodge 1328. While never obtaining a college degree he attended many military schools and college courses for 3 years of credit.
Funeral services will be held at American Heritage Funeral Home with burial at Houston National Cemetery with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers donations to Shriner's Hospital are encouraged.
