Irene, so sorry for your and your family's loss.  I just learned of David's passing today. We were classmates in grades 1-12 in Coleman. Later we crossed paths through my intoducing ya'll to Jim & Ann Cushman and then a couple of CHS reunions.  This old planet could use a lot more David Paul Herds.

David and I were first cousins.  His mother and my mother were sisters. I will always remember all the good times we had growing up.  There was another first cousin, Martha.  All of us were the same age, all born in the summer of 1938.  We were like the three
muskateers.  Our families were close and so were we.  He was a kind, caring person and I will always remember him.
For health reasons I could not attend the funeral, but my thoughts and prayers were with Irene and all the family.    Diane (Williams) Lowry

Its been awhile since I've seen David but he and his wonderful family hold a very special place in my heart.  I am deeply saddened by his passing and more so because I was not able to attend his service and offer support to his family.  David and Irene are the most generous, kind, caring people I know. It's true; David was a rare gem... one of the kindest men I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. In 35 years of friendship with the Herd's, neither David nor Irene has ever wavered in his or her gentle, caring manner toward others. He will be sorely missed by all but deeply grieved by his family with whom my thoughts remain. There is now one much brighter star in the sky as David looks down on Irene, his children, grandchildren, brother and the friends whom he loved. He will be deeply missed.

The thoughts and prayers of all of us at Domino's Pizza are with the Herd family at this sad time.

Dave was one of those special people that you remember all your life. He was an outstanding engineer, but more importantly an outstanding person. His easy going demeanor, his empathy, his folksy sense of humor, and his caring and wise leadership endeared him to all of us at Cameron who worked for him. Dave was an important part of our lives and he will be missed.

I was fortunate to have worked for Dave at the turn of the century. He was a kind man who was responsible for several innovative designs. I will be forever in his debt for his help...God bless

David hired me as a new engineer from UH and was my oilfield mentor. He was a great boss and a wonderful man. JoAnn and I will miss him.
