David Anthony Johnson Sr., of Humble, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 12, 1949, in Gilmer, Texas, to Walter Johnson and Ruby Jones.
David proudly served his country in the United States Army for 20 years before retiring as a Staff Sergeant, dedicating his life to service, integrity, and hard work. He carried the values of honor and loyalty into everything he did, both in and out of uniform.
A man of deep faith, David was a long-time member of the First Apostolic Church of Humble, where he faithfully served the Lord with devotion and love. His unwavering belief and quiet strength were an inspiration to all who knew him.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who found his greatest joy in family. David was married to the love of his life, Joy Johnson, for 58 wonderful years. Together, they built a home filled with love, laughter, and lasting memories.
He is survived by his wife Joy; daughters Joyce Warr, Janice Good and husband Jerry Good; son Terry Johnson; and grandchildren Nichole Chambers and husband Aaron Chambers, Angelique Powell and husband Javion Powell, Ivory Penn and husband Dillon Penn, Jackie Warr, Shanon Brown and husband Shayne Brown. He also leaves behind eight great-grandchildren who will continue to carry his love and legacy forward.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Johnson and Ruby Jones, and his beloved son, David Johnson Jr.
He will be remembered for his strength, wisdom, faith, and gentle heart. His legacy of love, service, and devotion to God will live on in all who were blessed to know him.
A visitation will take place at American Heritage Funeral Home, located at 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038, on October 28, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:30 am.
A Celebration of Life will follow at the same location from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm.
A committal service will be held at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77038, on October 28, 2025, from 12:45 pm to 1:15 pm.
